It's a rhythm that might frustrate, but I'm more often than not happy to give myself over to it, learning a little more with each inevitable death and pushing to survive that little bit longer. That said, sometimes it's just nice to unwind, and there's no better way to do that than a quick blast of Devil May Cry 5. Or, more specifically, by turning to Devil May Cry 5's Bloody Palace, which just came as part of a free update this week. OCEAN OF GAMES PATCH DE DEVIL MAY CRY 3 PC UPDATE It's become a staple of the series since its introduction in Devil May Cry 2, offering a no-frills succession of floors filled with enemies for you to clear out with just a single life and a limited amount of time. OCEAN OF GAMES PATCH DE DEVIL MAY CRY 3 PC SERIES It's thrillingly pure, a guttural roar of a mode you're compelled to scream alongside with, its sparseness only helping put the heart of Capcom's incredible game into sharper focus. There are some 101 levels here, and I've only seen a quarter of them. Bloody Palace is hardly a walk in the park, and after a short while it'll make strong demands of your skills - or, better still, will push you towards a deeper understanding of the movesets of any given character. Even though it's only been a few short weeks since last playing Devil May Cry 5, I'd forgotten how fine its combat is - at its peak, surely, in Dante, who's now an encyclopaedia of punishment, but also there in the myriad options afforded Nero thanks to his Devil Breakers. I'm not going to pretend playing through Bloody Palace is an easy or particularly relaxing time, but when placed in stark contrast to Sekiro it offers pure catharsis.
